Display screen and telework course in Spain free, with certificate

For anyone who spends the day at a computer, in the office or at home: how to set up the screen, the chair and the light, how to look after your eyes and back, and what your employer owes you if you work from home. 30-question test and a PDF training certificate, no sign-up.

Is there a free course on display screens and telework in Spain? Yes, this one: 8 modules based on Royal Decree 488/1997, Law 10/2021 on remote work (Ley de trabajo a distancia) and the INSST technical guide, a 30-question test and a PDF training certificate if you pass. The screen should be 40-75 cm from your eyes, with the top edge at eye level, and if you telework your employer must provide the equipment and pay the costs (Law 10/2021, articles 11 and 12). Note: it does not replace the risk assessment of your workstation or the training your employer must give you.

Note: this is not an assessment of your workstation, nor a course recognised by any authority. The assessment is done by your employer's prevention service, and your employer must give you training on your equipment, free and before you start.

Frequently asked questions

Are the course and certificate really free?
Yes. The 8 modules, the test and the PDF certificate are free and you do not need to sign up. LaborIA is funded by ads.
Is this the «display screen course» some employers ask for?
It covers the content of Royal Decree 488/1997 and the INSST guide, but training for your specific workstation must be given by your employer before you start and whenever it changes (article 5). The employer decides whether this certificate is useful to them.
Is it an official or recognised certificate?
No. It is a free-format training certificate: it lists the content, the rules, the date and your score, with a code to check it has not been altered. No authority recognises it.
How long can I work non-stop at the screen?
The law sets no minutes. It requires continuous work to be reduced with task changes or breaks if there is a risk, and lets the collective agreement set how many and how long. The INSST guide suggests moving every 30 minutes and resting your eyes every 20.
I telework on my own computer: do they have to pay me?
Your employer must provide the equipment listed in the agreement and compensate your costs (Law 10/2021, articles 11 and 12). It cannot make you use your own devices or install software on them (article 17.2). The amount is set by the agreement and the collective agreement.
Do you store my name or ID?
No. The PDF is created in your browser: your name and document are not sent to LaborIA or anyone else.

Check a certificate

For employers: type the details exactly as they appear on the certificate. Your browser checks that the code matches that name, ID number and date. LaborIA stores no data, so this confirms the certificate has not been altered, not who took the test.
