Training

  • The employer must give you theory and practical training, sufficient and suitable, when you are hired and when your duties or equipment change (Law 31/1995, article 19.1).
  • It is given within working hours or deducted from them, and you never bear the cost (article 19.2).
  • Erecting scaffolds or working on ropes also requires suitable and specific training for those operations (Royal Decree 2177/2004, 4.3.7 and 4.4.1.f).

You can stop

You have the right to stop work and leave the place if you consider it poses a serious and imminent risk to your life or health (article 21.2).

Your obligations

Use equipment and PPE properly, do not disable safety devices and report immediately any risky situation (article 29).

In practiceYou are sent onto a roof in strong wind with no lifeline installed. If you consider there is a serious and imminent risk, you may refuse to go up until it is fixed, and you must report it: it is a right under article 21.2.
