Module 6 of 7 · Course contents

Rope access work

Only when the risk assessment shows it can be done safely and other, safer equipment is not justified (4.1.3). Minimum conditions (4.4.1):

  • Two ropes anchored separately: the working line and the safety line.
  • A harness connected to the safety line, with a fall arrester that follows the worker.
  • Tools attached to the harness or seat.
  • Work planned and supervised so the worker can be rescued immediately in an emergency.
  • Specific training, including rescue of suspended persons.

Bad weather

Temporary work at height is only carried out when weather conditions do not endanger safety and health (4.1.6).

Removing a guardrail to work

If collective protection has to be removed temporarily, compensatory measures set out in the planning are taken first; without them no work is done, and it is put back afterwards (4.1.5).

In practiceTo bring a pallet in over a slab edge, a section of guardrail is removed: first, everyone on that edge clips onto an anchor point, and as soon as the pallet is in, the guardrail goes back.
