When someone looks for a «60-hour course» or a «preventive resource course», they almost always mean the basic-level prevention training in construction set by the sector's general collective agreement.
What the agreement says (VI general collective agreement of the construction sector)
- Basic-level training lasts at least 60 teaching hours (annex XII, section 3), with five blocks: basic concepts of safety and health; general risks and their prevention; risks specific to the construction sector; basic elements of prevention management; and first aid.
- It has been 60 hours since 6 September 2007 (IV agreement); before that it was 50 (annex XIII, letter c).
- It can be classroom-based or blended; in the blended form, the classroom part is at least 20 hours (article 140.2). This training counts as the initial training and other sector training (article 140.3).
- The other cycles: the initial training (first cycle), entirely classroom-based (article 138), and the training by trade (second cycle), with a common part of 14 hours and a specific part of 6 hours (article 139.4).
Who teaches it and who certifies it
- In general, the basic-level certificate is issued by a prevention service or a public or private entity with the capacity to give specific prevention training (Royal Decree 39/1997, article 35.3).
- In construction, the Fundación Laboral de la Construcción recognises the training entities, registers their diplomas and records them on the Construction Professional Card (annexes XIV and XV).
- The TPC (articles 148 to 157) evidences the prevention training received and expires 5 years after it is issued (article 155).
What this course is NOT
This course is not the 60-hour or the basic-level course: it is an explanation of what the rules say so that you arrive at that course, or at your appointment, knowing what is asked of you. No online course without practice or a recognised entity makes you a preventive resource.
